EU DPP Compliance Checklist for Clothing Brands

Determine if your brand is in scope

The ESPR regulation applies to any garment placed on the EU market. If you sell to EU customers — directly or via distributors — you are in scope. Check your EU sales volume and identify which product categories are affected first.

Map your current product data

Export your product catalog (from Shopify, your ERP, or wherever you manage products). For each SKU, note what data you already have and what's missing against the DPP required fields.

Identify your data gaps

Common gaps include country of material origin (tier-2 supplier data), fibre composition at the component level (shell, lining, interlining separately), and certification details (certificate numbers and expiry dates).

Prioritise your top suppliers

Identify the 20 suppliers that cover 80% of your product volume. DPP data collection from these suppliers covers the majority of your compliance exposure. Don't try to collect from your entire supply chain at once.

Send supplier data templates

Create a standardised data template for suppliers — fibre composition, country of material origin, certification details. Send it with a clear regulatory framing and a deadline. Most established garment manufacturers already receive similar requests.

Collect and verify certifications

For every sustainability certification your brand claims (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, Bluesign, Fair Trade, etc.), collect the certificate number, issuing body, and expiry date. Verify that certificates are current — expired certifications cannot be listed in a DPP.

Choose a DPP management system

Evaluate whether a spreadsheet can realistically manage your DPP data at scale. For 50+ SKUs, you need a dedicated system that can generate DPP URLs, track certification expiry, and sync data across your supply chain.

Enter and structure your product data

Input your verified product data into your chosen system, mapping to DPP-required fields. Pay particular attention to fibre composition format — percentages must sum to 100% per component.

Generate DPP records with unique URLs

Each style (or variant, depending on the delegated act requirements) needs a DPP record with a unique URL. The URL must be stable and the data kept current.

Update care label artwork with QR codes

Add the DPP QR code to your care label design. The QR code links to the DPP URL and must be readable on the finished garment. Allow 3–6 months lead time for label changes to work through your supplier's production schedule.

Brief your manufacturer on new label spec

Your garment manufacturer (cut-and-sew factory) needs the updated label artwork and confirmation that the QR code is required on all EU-bound production. Confirm this in your next purchase order terms.

Establish a data maintenance process

The DPP is a live record. When materials or suppliers change, the DPP must be updated. Build a quarterly data review into your product management process, and track certification expiry dates proactively.
